Steady start to 2017 as van market sees modest growth

Van registrations rise 1.2% in January 2017, with 21,363 new light commercial vehicles joining UK roads.Demand for pick-ups continues to rise, up 28.9% at 3,439 units.Heavy van segment sees gains, growing 5.6% compared with January 2016. The new van market got off to a positive start in 2017, with January seeing a small 1.2% growth in registrations, according to data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Heavy vans weighing between 2.5 and 3.5t, which make up the bulk of the market, rose 5.6% in January. Meanwhile, pickups’ popularity continued to grow following a successful 2016, with registrations increasing 28.9%.Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said,Vans are the backbone of British business so it is positive to see the strength of the market continue into 2017. Farmer killed in Kerry tractor crash

first_imgA 50-YEAR-OLD farmer has died in a road traffic accident in Kerry.The incident occurred at Behenagh, Kielduff in Tralee at approximately midday. No other vehicles were involved.The victim was the sole occupant of his tractor, which struck a ditch.An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Tralee General Hospital where a post-mortem has taken place.The road was initially closed to facilitate Garda forensic collision investigators but has since reopened.Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who was in the Kielduff area between 11.45am and 12.15pm today, to contact them at Tralee Garda Station (066 7102300), The Garda Confidential Line (1800 666 111) or any Garda Station.last_img read more
