Compensation of 45 does not guarantee farmers recovery – PN

first_img SharePrint Partit Nazzjonalista has insisted that compensation of 45% does not guarantee that farmers will be able to recover and rebuild greenhouses and other expenses which were incurred in last winter’s storm.PN has stated that Government took it upon itself to choose that farmers which suffered for various damages around the island will only be compensated for 45% of the damage dealt.Application for farmers that suffered damages in their fields during February’s storm opened last Wednesday.PN Representative for Agriculture Edwin Vassallo added that while Government was generous in spending in situations that were deemed favourable to it, it only managed to spare €3.5 million for our local farmers.In a statement issued by Government earlier this week, it was explained that farmers can apply for compensation if they suffered any of these expenses:Expenses related to repairing or replacing greenhouses or tunnels;Expenses associated with repairing or replacing dry stone walls and rubble walls which hold soil;Expenses realised regarding repairing or replacing traditional water mills;Any stone or steel work in order to repair or replace damages done in the fields as registered by the VPRD;Expenses as certified by a warranted architect with a maximum of 5% of eligible expenses.Read: Government to seek European funds to cover storm damagesRead: Farmers trapped between local and EU bureaucracyWhatsApp <a href=’;cb={random}’ target=’_blank’><img src=’;cb={random}&amp;n=ab2c8853&amp;ct0={clickurl_enc}’ border=’0′ alt=” /></a>last_img read more
