first_img1 Axel Witsel in action for Belgium Chelsea target Axel Witsel has verbally agreed to join AC Milan but the deal has hit a snag over the transfer fee involved.The Belgian midfielder, who has been monitored by Jose Mourinho’s scouting team at Stamford Bridge for over a year, has told Zenit St Petersburg he wants to test himself at one of Europe’s powerhouse clubs.But the 26-year-old’s £21.5m price tag is much higher than Milan are willing to part with for the former Standard Liege and Benfica man, opening the door for Chelsea to make a late bid and match Zenit’s asking fee.It has been revealed by the player’s agent, Riccardo Napolitano, that the San Siro giants will only shell out £14.3m for Witsel despite the Belgium international insisting Italy would be his first-choice destination.Advisors from Milan are set to meet with Zenit officials at the end of this week to try and come to an agreement over the transfer, while Chelsea will wait in the wings and make their next move based on the outcome of those talks.last_img read more
